Second Tuesday Reading Group, Jan 12, 7pm
The topic for January’s book club meeting is Deep Down Dark: The Untold Stories of 33 Men Buried in a Chilean Mine, and the Miracle That Set Them Free by Hector Tobar. When the San José mine collapsed outside of Copiapó, Chile, in August 2010, it trapped 33 miners beneath thousands of feet of rock for a recordbreaking 69 days. The entire world watched what transpired aboveground during the protracted rescue, but the saga of the miners’ experience—and lives—has never been heard until now.
Join the discussion January 12 at 7 p.m. at Amy Johnson’s (5838 Woodridge Oaks, 544-0438 or uoluolyma@yahoo.com). All are welcome to attend (the group encourages the “read more” New Year’s resolution), just please let Amy know if you’re coming.
