St. Francis Hosts Green Spaces Awards Reception
On Sunday, February 7, the Steering Committee for the International Community Garden (ICG) hosted the Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas Appreciation and Awards Reception for community gardens in the San Antonio area on Sunday afternoon. Approximately 80 gardeners from community gardens in San Antonio came together for updates, awards and networking.
The ICG has now been upgraded to an “Asset Garden” because we mentor other gardeners and it is such a successful project. As seen on the left in the picture, former Mayor Hardberger’s wife Linda announced her creation of The Linda Hardberger Community Gardens Endowment, with an initial contribution of $20,000 that will need to be matched to be used. The endowment will help Green Spaces Alliance continue to build the community gardens program in San Antonio’s neighborhoods today, tomorrow and forever.
Green Spaces Alliance gave out gifts to each attending garden, and the ladies of the Junior League of San Antonio provided delicious food and drink. Before and after the reception, members of the Steering Committee took several of the receptions attendees on a tour of the ICG, and we were very proud of the nice comments that were made about it.
It was a pleasant and informative afternoon, inspiring us to keep moving ahead in 2016 to even more growth and diversity in all our projects with our community gardens.
